BEACHES AND VILLAGE OF BENICASIM
Dream beaches!! Benicasim has achieved five blue flags for its five beaches over seven kilometres. The award recognises that Voramar, l'Almadrava, Torre Sant Vicent, Els Terrers and Heliópolis are the best destinations to enjoy its golden sand, crystal-clear water, facilities for practising water sports and services where accessibility is taken into account for all visitors. During the summer season, activity programmes such as cinema on the beach, gymnastics classes and entertainment for children and adults, as well as various reading offers in the "library of the sea" begin. And Benicasim has something special, which is why it has attracted monks, corsairs, brigade members, writers, actors, backpackers and nobles, among others, for centuries, all of whom are always welcome. The old villas, El Torreón, its promenade or the lively streets of the old town are a reference point for those looking to discover the essence of the Mediterranean. Its climate and pleasant temperature from January to December make Benicasim a classic destination at any time of year to visit with family, friends or alone.
VIA VERDE
We are just a minute's walk from the entrance to the famous "Green Way" that links the towns of Benicassim and Oropesa del Mar. An 11 km route to do on foot or by bike that will leave no one indifferent. The route between Benicàssim and Orpesa is 5.5 km one way and another 5.5 km for the return, that is, a total of 11 km that can be done without rushing in 1 hour 30 minutes with stops. The first part crosses a small tunnel, at km 1, to pass at km 1.5 near the first Watchtower on a beautiful cliff above the sea where there is a rest area and viewing point. The route runs between trenches and open areas with views of the sea, until reaching a long tunnel at km 4 (about 600 m, be careful that sometimes the tunnel lights do not work and it is necessary to carry torches on the bike or headlamps). After passing this long tunnel we reach km 5 where the port and yacht club of Orpesa are located, with only 500 m to go to reach the first buildings of Orpesa (km 5.5), being able to go down to the promenade to the play areas and beach bars.
LA RENEGA
The beaches of Benicasim offer different spaces to sunbathe and enjoy the sea on long strips of sand with multiple leisure and service options, but there are also those who prefer to enjoy a quieter and more relaxed day at the beach, without having too many neighbours with towels. The “Playa de la Renega” is without a doubt one of the best natural beaches on the Mediterranean coast. Cozy and quiet due to the natural environment that surrounds it, it is made up of a multitude of sandy coves and rocks sculpted by the sea and wind, surrounded by intricate vegetation that makes it a practically magical place, where the leafy pine forests almost reach the very shore. Photography lovers are delighted by the beautiful sunrises and sunsets that occur on this beach.
DESIERTO DE LAS PALMAS
The name desert is the term that the Discalced Carmelites use to designate those solitary places far from the population, where they retreat to devote themselves to contemplation and prayer. Since the area was abundant with palmettos (Chamaerops humillis), the park was renamed Desert de les Palmes. The lands of the Desert of the Palms have been populated since the Neolithic, although its history really begins with the arrival of the Carmelite fathers. Protected by law for more than 20 years, the Natural Park of the Desert of the Palms is located in a coastal mountain range of the Plana Alta region parallel to the coast, with abundant ridges and rocks, with an area of more than 3,000 hectares. From the highest peaks, the Mola del Morico at 694 metres and the Bartolo at 729 metres, visitors can enjoy the wonderful views that its two peaks offer of the coast. The climate of the park is characterised by being clearly Mediterranean, but its proximity to the sea gives it special climatic characteristics due to the easterly winds which, loaded with humidity, cause fog allowing the formation of more humid microclimates. The natural space has a series of ruins and buildings of notable interest such as the Miravet castle, the Montornés castle and the Old Castle, as well as the hermitage of Les Santes and La Magdalena.
